Yeah, I know it’s a bit late but I honestly didn’t know it was happening until on an email a client said ‘wish you and your BF the best for today’
I just said a polite thanks and declined to point out I am actually married very happily and get the delight of his presence is my present every day not candy once a year.
That aside I saw this on the feeds; BIG erected a super cute 10ft tall LED shaped heart sculpture just in time for valentines Day in Times Square, NYC.
Conceptually, Bjarke Ingels wanted to carve a structure out of the ‘essence’ of Times Square by reflecting lights off the throngs of people, reflections and the square itself. With this in mind, I like to think the installation is reflecting a love for the city rather than any individuals love, but then I suppose that’s not as catchy in the valentines card.
The grid of acrylic tubes are illuminated by red LEDs and arranged in the shape of a heart. The LED bulbs glow brighter and "beat" faster as more people make contact with the sculpture's touch-sensitive base.
The heart beat apparently reached its’ brightest shortly after its unveiling last week. “We saw that it had aroused this massive, almost like an orgy of public participation” said Ingels “but we found out later it was because of the Giants winning the Super Bowl." Who said romance is dead?
