David Kohn is Officially the Bestest Interior Designer in the World

Just over the road in Singapore was having the World Architecture Festival 2013. While lots of things where happening and it looked like a jolly good time on the feeds I really did delight in the announcment of David Kohn Architectsas the winner of the World Interior of the Year 2013.

The INSIDE: World Festival of Interiorsis the interiors focused event at WAF and David Kohn Architects won the top interior design award for their refurbishing of the Carrer Avinyó apartment in Barcelona. The UK-based firm beat out 55 nominations from 25 countries, including big boys of the likes of Zaha Hadid Architects, HASSELL, and KPF among others.

Side by side with other projects in this category it is easy to see how this project stands out due to its seamless cross over of professional territory. Looking at the pictures it is easy to see the beautiful consideration of every aspect of the apartment. The varying scale adds a sense of architectural theatre to the tight and acute floor plan. The harmony of the external building and the internal design is the ultimate panicle of excellently considered design.

Kohn remodeled the apartment by removing partition walls and a lining the apartment with the streets beyond, to create a perfect pied-à-terre for the clients. The apartment is located in Barcelona’s gothic quarter. Open plan living, bathroom and three bedrooms - two-stacked one above the other with the third joined by an elevated mezzanine level.

Finally, the specially made tessellated pattern tiled floor are totally transfixing, I can not get enough of them.
