Hong Kong in Tetris Colours

This is Hong Kong. The densest populated place in the world. When I say that I'm referring to legal official population density, not shanty towns or any other of the like.

If you’ve ever visited Hong Kong, you know that space is limited to keep land prices artificially high. More than 7 million people registered as living here and during the week it swells to an estimated 10million official bodies with in the SAR limits.

The majority of the population live in the high-rise, high-density residential towers that make up the skyline beyond, behind or just to the side of the classic Hong Kong skyline. Box apartments like this are actually a reality for many people.  It's no wonder that these tightly clustered structures are a main focus of conversation (directly after 'who do you fly with)  for expats from cities and societies that have different priorities.

I gawp at these horrors almost on a daily basis, imagining what's going on inside and it's no surprise to me that they are the focus of someones art work. German artist/photographer Michael Wolf‘s “The Architecture of Density,” a really nice photo essay that highlights these towers.

Gawp and be glad you can swing a cat in your place.
