It was Milan Design Fair 2014 last week so I've noted down my favs from the show below. Enjoy!
Yep, freaking awesome looking wireframe animals at the Marni Animal House .
While I'm not wild about Marni stuff, I do like to know that they do a lot for charities in South America. This particular collection was made by ladies in deprived neighborhoods in Iza, Columbia. Watch the making of video here:
TOG is a collective of of designers including sebastian bergne, jonathan bui quang da, sam hecht + kim colin, ambroise maggiar, nicola rapetti, dai sugasawa and philippe starck that allows customers to go on line and essentially make their own furniture out of bits of designer furniture. TOG proclaim that it is the future of design where the consumer has full control but it's really the pinical of consumerism and I don't think I really like it. See Phillipe Stark talk about it here :
Rotterdam-based Studio Minale-Maeda's project Keystones is innovative and really lovely. They have created an universal furniture joint designed to reduces the complexity of the furniture into key components. The Keystone joint is designed to be 3D-printed, so it can be produced locally. It holds together the various components of a table or chair, which can be fabricated using basic workshop tools or a computerised cutting machine. I really dig the approachability and ability to inspire of a project like this.
Finally Moooi's use of super graphics in their fully interective showcase is wonderful. Watch creative director Marcel Wanders talk about their 2014 exhibition here:
