This time last year I was preparing to move so this blog got shelved as animal transit paperwork and the unknown loomed.
I didn’t mean to be away so long. For the most part, the excitement of moving to London and for the small part, a new more fulfilling job, induced a perpetual break neck paced delirium that has engulfed the last 10 months at least. I’ll tell you, it takes longer to land in to a new country than you’d think.
Now I’m slightly settled and relatively stable the discomfort of just getting by is setting in. I’m fresh back from a fantastically relaxing holiday, where all that occupied my mind was the snow forecast. No house to run, battles with the alarm clock or office politics. All I missed was my dogs, and actually, if I’m honest, we weren’t away long enough to miss them too much.
Back to reality and I’m a quite frustrated with shitty clients and strangled, uninspiring design. I love my job but in the last few months the quality of work has been extremely low. I need some industry pals to converse with but have none. I’ve not put pen to paper for any reason in weeks. I’m in a bit of a rut of my own making.
I figured a first positive step would be to hold myself accountable to a bit of consistency. That being in blogging and drawing, okay and the gym but that isn’t mentioned much here. I’ve fallen out of the habit of engaging with my interests and I think it’s one of the reasons I’ve become quite down.
I’ve been checking out Chris Robson recently and he’s had me thinking about my overall life balance. He calls it ‘Lifestyle’ but I’m more inclined to think of his musings as self-development strategies. I am always interested but it’s so easy to get swept along just getting by. Start on Monday tired or without a meal plan and it’s difficult to get a grip on the week. It seems that I’m supposed to know it all, what I want and how to get it and notions of self-help and growth are somehow for people who are weak, but this couldn’t be further from the truth. Everyone’s just hoping they don’t get found out.
Well, I’m okay with getting found out, I learned to snowboard last week.
