Summer Pavilion

It's coming up for summer and it's time for all the pavilions to start popping up. The Serpentine Gallery hoopla is on going and everyone is building little bus shelters in honor of everything from the sun gods to Kanye West.

It's not just in the UK that people can't decide if they want to sit out side or inside. The whole of the world is united in complaining about the weather. Thankfully the pavilion helps to elevate a bit of the perceived misery bought on by the changing environment.

I thought this lovely timber structure was something quite exciting until I realised that it is only open for 103 days. The pavilion joins Aalto University, Museum of Finnish Architecture and the Design Museum and was constructed by Aalto University Wood Studio students and specialists representing an architecture of a new era and top know-how of Finnish wood construction.

Don't get me wrong I freaking love building stuff cafe's event spaces and custom ordered plexiglass is a tad unsustainable, isn't it?

Something that showcases the 'new era and top know-how of Finnish wood construction' should really be considering the sustainability shouldn't it?

Helsinki is the World Design Capital for 2012 and I'm sure they expect lots of visitors. It is definetly an exciting expo of wood construction and an interesting reinventing of a town square but I cant get over it all just being bulldozed on September 16th.

*sad face*
