Zahah Hadid Announces Curvy Wavy Thing for Tokyo 2020!



Zaha Hadid has won the international competition for the new national stadium of Japan!

'The sinuous forms of the stadium will stand as a landmark venue not only for the Olympics, but the city of Tokyo!' Declares the press release.

With the announcement of Tokyo winning the bid to host the 2020 Olympic and Paralympics games, comes the confirmation that Zaha Hadid Architects ‘New National Stadium of Japan’ will act as the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies as well as many other events including the 2019 rugby world cup and hopefully other events including FIFA world cup, the IAAF world championships,etc,etc.

The massive sports arena is near Shinjuku and will accommodate 80,000 spectators. Featuring a slightly more up bleacher seating sections that can be moved closer together for field event, and moved further appart for other events that require and of course, a retractable roof will allow for an open-air atmosphere - how could you not?

The winning proposal beat out ten other international teams including SANAA, populous, UNstudio and local big boy Toyo Ito (see the full listing of the shortlisted projects here).

It is ticks all the boxes of elevated ground connections governing the flow of people under the similarly flowing curvy geometric forms of the building,

You win a prize if you can see where you can spot the echoes of the Kasumigaoka National Stadium from 1964, the last time the Olympics was in Japan.
