Slippery Slope.

O dear... Building codes checked by unpaid interns? Starchitectural frims have a long way to bump down to earth.

Cornell University’s new architecture building designed by Rem Koolhaas’ Office of Metropolitan Architecture is a “total disaster” according to head of architecture, Jonathan Ochshorn. “The code violations are egregious”, he says in this video interview with Business of Architecture as they discuss the conflict between architectural abstraction and the built environment and points out the flaws with USGBC’s LEED rating system

The architecture school’s newest building cost over $55 million dollars, yet it doesn’t comply with the most current edition of the International Building Code or the Building Code of New York State, resulting in the spaces on the ground floor even lack proper fire escapes. The building even leaks!

So, um, yeah. That's a bit rubbish innit?
