Architects Doing It For Themselves

Earlier this year the Boston Society of Architects opened its new headquarters; BSA Space. The leading cultural institute on architecture and design in the city, modern classic design here is a very nicely executed example of somewhat standard fair.

Don't get me wrong; it's very nice. Selected by competition in 2010, the historic water front building is an exemplary product of the Boston's current move toward sustaining the city.

The focal point stair draws the eye to an industrial cloud ceiling which ambiently lights the over 500 square meters of exhibition spaces on the first level.

It is a perfectly functional space designed by local architects Howeler + Yoon Architects. It is not to be forgotten that there is a skill to creating gallery spaces. Personally, my attention is caught by the urban design exhibition that is being displayed and in that sence the architects have achieved everything they set out to.
